Boat Trips
Boat trips are a popular excursion from Gairloch harbour, easily reached on foot from The Old Inn. A range of marine mammals can be seen in Loch Gairloch and the Minch including whales, dolphins and porpoises. Bird life is extraordinarily rich in and around the loch with White-tailed and Golden Eagles a familiar site as well as numerous species of seabirds, including some of the rarest in the British Isles. The story of one of the most daring Allied operations of World War II is told at the Arctic Convoy Museum on nearby Loch Ewe – the point of departure for convoys taking vital supplied to the Soviet Union. The route went through perilous Arctic waters, and the ships sailed under the constant threat of air, surface vessel and U-boat attacks.
You can get hands on with Gairloch’s fishing heritage and learn about sustainable fishing on a Shellfish Safari from Badachro in a traditional, working fishing boat.
